Dear Friends of the Redemptorist Renewal Center,

I received the below prayer to Our Mother of Perpetual Help for aid and protection during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was sent to us by our Superior General Fr. Michael Brehl and was developed by the Redemptorists in Ireland. Anne Walsh graciously reformatted it to be email. I will also put it in the parish bulletin. Please spread it around. We can do two things: spread devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help, and encourage people to pray to her during this difficult time.

==============================================================

The Diocese of Tucson has designated the Church of Our Lady of the Desert as a “conventual church,” a designation of Canon Law of the Catholic Church.  The Church Community is not a parish. Thus, the ministries and services are not typical of a parish church. The Redemptorist Renewal Center shares sacred space with the Church of Our Lady of the Desert, and it serves as the religious chapel of the Redemptorist Community. The Church is utilized for prayer by private individual and religious and retreat groups of the Redemptorist Renewal Center.

The Redemptorist priests, under the direction of the Rector of the church, provide pastoral care for the church community. The Church community does celebrate the Sacraments of the Eucharist, Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick. Reconciliation may be celebrated by appointment.  In addition, registered members of the church may celebrate the funeral liturgies of the Church at the time of their journey to everlasting life.

Please call the front office or see the church bulletin for upcoming scheduled times of prayer and worship.

Rector, Our Lady of the Desert Church
Rev. Brian Johnson, C.Ss.R.

Church Apostolic and Pastoral Life

In the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, Our Lady of the Desert Church offers opportunities for Church members to actively participate in the Church. Our calling is based on the Church mission in enabling members to strengthen the social ministry of their local church.

We are reminded about this mission by the U.S. bishops in their document, In All Things Charity: A Pastoral Challenge for the New Millennium, issued in November 1999.

In his 1979 visit to our country, the late Pope John Paul II said, Catholics of the United States, while developing your own legitimate institutions, you also participate in the nation’s affairs within the framework of institutions and organizations springing from the nation’s common history and from your common concern. This you do hand-in-hand with your fellow citizens of every creed and confession.

To promote the common good, we Catholics have the right and the responsibility to join all members of society to improve the conditions of the human family. We have a corresponding obligation to promote and uphold the sacredness and integrity of human life at all stages from conception to natural death. In our society, we exercise our responsibility toward the common good by actively participating in the voluntary, private, and public sectors of civil society.

In keeping with the Catholic social principle of subsidiarity, such memberships are to be encouraged as ways for Catholics and others to exercise their call to charity, justice, peace, and solidarity. Voluntary organizations play an important part in our collective efforts to promote the common good, protect human life, reach out to people in need, and work for a more just and compassionate society. Many church members also serve as volunteers or supporters of the Redemptorist Renewal Center.

With this mission, the Church of Our Lady of the Desert endeavors to offer its members in ministries such as liturgy, social justice, spiritual and educational development.

Church Membership

You may choose to become a registered member of the worship community church. Registration can easily be arranged after the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist or during regular office hours. Registered members are important to us in order that we might better serve you and understand your particular needs.

Registered membership fosters communication and a sense of belonging with the conventual church community. Registered members are eligible to serve the conventual community in liturgical ministries. Registered members receive monthly envelopes for the support of the Church and the ministry of the community and will also receive a year-end record of donations for tax purposes.
